How many photos can I submit to Your Best Shot 2024?
Only one (1) safe photo taken by you should be submitted. The idea is for us all to take a moment to browse through our photos from the year and pick the one that's our absolute favorite. The photo must have been uploaded to Flickr in 2024. You can add your submissions to the group from December 1, 2024 through January 4, 2025.
I changed my mind about my favorite shot this year. Can I submit a second photo?
We know this can happen. While you cannot submit a second photo, you can remove your first submission and replace it with your new selection. Please be mindful when doing this. Repeatedly adding and removing your image with the sole purpose of increasing views may get you banned.

Where can I find my photos that I’ve submitted to the pool?
Use the following link: https://www.flickr.com/groups/yourbestshot2024/pool/me
What are the prizes this year?
Each of the five category winners will receive:
A metal print of a photo of their choice up to 20x30 print
A year subscription of Flickr Pro
And this year we’re offering a very special grand prize for the best of the best! From the 5 category winners, we’ll choose a grand prize winner. Our grand prize winner will receive a brand-new camera and can choose their preferred camera from four great options -
-Sony A7 IV
-Canon EOS R6 Mark II
-Fujifilm X-T5
-Nikon Z7 II
Can I add a picture I took in 2023, but added to Flickr in 2024?
The group is for photos uploaded in 2024. While we technically allow photos that have been taken at any point, the true spirit of Your Best Shot is to submit a photo that was taken this year. This also factors into the judging process.
I want some additional exposure for my favorite photo. Will you show it anywhere outside of the group?
We will be publishing a number of our favorite photos grouped into various themes in a series of Flickr galleries throughout December and January, as well as featuring photos from the group pool in "Flickr's Photo of the Day" on our Instagram giving your photos some great exposure. As noted in the rules, we may select lower-resolution versions of some of the images to promote them on our social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.), always with attribution crediting you.
What are those ‘Your Best [] of 2024’ discussion threads I keep seeing?
Those discussions are created by other group members, just for fun, but not "official." The only images eligible for prizes are the ones added to the group's photo pool.
***Please note: you must add your image to the photo pool for it to qualify as an official submission for the contest. Images embedded in threads but not in the photo pool won't be eligible for prizes.***
If you'd like to know more or have any other questions, let us know right here in the comments.

I added an astrophoto and categorized it as #YBS24Open. If astrophotography is better categorized in nature, please let me know. In that case I believe I can delete the entry and resubmit it.
I wouldn't do that. Change the tag if you want to but deleting and replacing the image in the pool is rather frowned upon.
I can't advise about your tag choice - it seems appropriate to me. Flickr staff never comment on tag/ category choices in my experience.

Hello, I have photos I'm considering which are public speakers at microphones and also photos of musicians on stage in performance, including vocalists at microphones. Would these categories be best suited to the 'Open' category, since they are not really portraits? Just want to get it right before I post. Thanks!! (And yes, I'm aware only one photo can be submitted... I just haven't made up my mind yet. thanks again!)
Just one photo total this year, it seems. Am I remembering correctly that last year it was one per category?
Not complaining, just double checking my memory/
Not complaining, just double checking my memory/
Hi I just submitted a photo and realised it was taken in 2012 and not 2024 . Should i change the photo ??
The rules are very misleading. There are 6 categories and It says we can submit one photo for each category but the group is still set to only one submission per user. Can we submit more than one image or not?
Stupid question, should a tag be "#YBS24Portrait" or "YBS24Portrait"?
I get a comment about this group does not allow restricted content? what did I do?
But then the rules should specifically say "shot AND uploaded in 2024", but it does not...
If the photo date will later be a factor in the judging process you are effectively creating A and B priority classes after you first say the photo date does not matter!?
So, for example if anyone submits an analog photo/negative scan of a picture taken in 1990 and pretends the photo was taken in 2024 it would get treated as a priority photo when it should not be...
That wouldn't be very nice to people who get their favourite shot of the year at a New Year's Eve party. As much as I love Flickr, I still would not want to interrupt a fun party to go off and upload a photo and put it in a contest. Better to do it "tomorrow" ... but wait, that's 2025!
Flickr is just trying to be nice here, and the nice thing for people to do in return is Be Nice.
No matter what the rules are, Non-Nice people will find ways to defeat them. Flickr is trying to make their lawyers happy while at the same time reassure you that they are going to do all they reasonably can do to detect the Non-Nice people and not give them the prizes.
I can’t get my photo to show up in the YBS24Open pool. The tag links to the pool, but my photo isn’t there. It’s been over 24 hours.
You have this photo in the pool:
www.flickr.com/groups/yourbestshot2024/pool/me
If you are expecting a different photo, the reason it is not going in is because you have this one instead.
I don't know what you mean by "not showing up in the tag". I do see a YBS tag on your photo.
how do you find your best shot for the year? in stats? and what determines 'best'- most likes, most views, etc?

many thanks Sianmatthews, it was one of my fave photos after i took it so its nice to see others love it as much as i do.
Does a photo already being in Explore factor into the judging in any way?
Last year there was a category for AI-generated images. This year there isn't. Are AI images allowed in this year's categories, or at least in the open category?
Thanks for answering!
Thanks for answering!
For sports photography, should I use the Open category? It is a picture of people, but it is not a portrait.
I see a lot of 2nd life etc CGI screenshots, are those being accepted???
They have been accepted in the past.
I posted my shot correctly tagged I hope….two people have since faved that shot from a few months ago..my question is are we supposed to be faving and commenting on these photos and does their new popularity count towards it being one of the winning shot.. I was never that bright so please forgive my question if it’s a stupid one 😏
We ordinary members can't speak for Flickr staff but I believe we can be reasonably certain that "popularity" will not factor into the judging process. Just enjoy the group. Fave, comment if you feel inclined to.
BTW, your excellent marble shot does not have the correct tags currently. You need to add #YBS24Open and #YBS24ThroughHerLens separately.
Thank you so much for your swift reply…I am lacking in common sense is my problem and even wrote instructions to myself on paper first to get it right..😏😂😂

Good afternoon! I can't add the YBS24Urban tag to my best shot. Can you tell me how this can be done?
Unfortunately was not possible add the tag #YBS24Nature to my photo. I added it to the group anyway. Do you have any suggestion? Thanks

I added the tag.
My theory is you forgot to press the ENTER key when you typed the tag. Not just the Done button. You literally have to press the ENTER key.
Hello,
I know that the photo must have been uploaded to Flickr in 2024.
That is logical.
But - my question - can a photo that was taken in fall 2023 but uploaded to Flickr in 2024 participate here?
Greetings, adinia

The FAQs above say
Can I add a picture I took in 2023, but added to Flickr in 2024?
The group is for photos uploaded in 2024. While we technically allow photos that have been taken at any point, the true spirit of Your Best Shot is to submit a photo that was taken this year. This also factors into the judging process
So your photo from 2023 uploaded in 2024 can participate here, but the true spirit would be to submit one taken this year.
Hi,
I took a photo in 2024, but I didn’t get a chance to upload it to Flickr until today, January 1st, 2025. The photo’s EXIF data clearly indicates it was taken in 2024, although the upload date is now 2025. I have also added it to this group’s pool and tagged it appropriately.
Could you please confirm if there will be any issues regarding the date for the competition? I would greatly appreciate your clarification or approval.
Thank you for your time and understanding!

Hi, the FAQs say submissions are allowed up till 4/01 /2025 so re admitting it now should be fine. Good Luck
Does the image need to be a picture, or can it be an extensive photoshop project with stock images and AI art for lacking elements?

Trying to submit my image and it says that I have reached the group submission limit despite only submitting one photograph. Any advice would be appreciated!
You can only submit one photograph - as it says above, "add your single best photo of the year to the photo pool"
Oh okay, thanks! I thought it was multiple images!
From the front page of the group:
SELECTION OF WINNERS: On or about January 31, 2025 a panel of judges composed of Flickr staff appointed by Sponsor will select the winners (the “Judging Panel”) from among all eligible Submissions. The Judging Panel will determine the winners based on the following selection criteria: originality, creativity, and skill. The winners will be notified by SmugMug Inc. on or about January 31, 2025. Incomplete entries will not be accepted. The number of eligible entries will determine the odds of winning. In Sponsor’s sole discretion, a selected winner may be required to forfeit a prize and an alternate winner may be selected in accordance with these Official Rules from among the remaining eligible entries for that prize if selected winner (i) is unreachable, (ii) declines or cannot accept, receive or use the prize for any reason, or (iii) fails to comply with these Official Rules.

So am I. Very high quality stuff out there! Good luck everybody and for the judge a lot of fun, even though it is tough!
I was cleaning up some groups on my photo and accidentally deleted it from the group. Now I can't add it back. Any way to fix?
It's this one: www.flickr.com/photos/davelawrence8/54015489376/in/datepo...
Thanks Flickr team!

I forgot to send the photo on time. Is there any way I can send it now as an exception?
