CONTESTS
Each month we have two types of contest, first one is a contest where each member can post 2 photos, and at the end of the month, admin chooses 1 or 2 winners, the other contest starts every month with a different theme, here members can post only one photo, winners a chosen by group members.
Each month the winning photos are featured on the main page of the group and are also moved to the Birds photos Hall of Fame thread.
Few things you must know:
• Any member of the group may participate.
• Admins reserve the right to remove any image considered Offensive or that does not fit the theme.
• You must include the number of your photo and post it in medium size only. (Usage of "[ ]" is strictly forbidden in this group, please use the instructions below, on how to post pics in our discussions)
• Please come back to vote when the thread opens for voting. You must vote for 3.
• Voting starts when one of the admins/mods finds the time to change the title of the thread.
Please make sure you understand the rules before you post, good luck.
How we score the votes:
• The first photo that you vote for gets 3 points.
• The second photo that you vote for gets 2 points.
• The last photo that you vote for gets 1 point.
So, the order that you list the photos is very important.
POSTING PHOTOS AND DISCUSSION (UPDATED on 2016/08/07)
What are the rules for posting pictures here?
Please scroll down the Birds Photos Home Page on Flickr to see the Pool rules, but key points are;
a. Only photos allowed in the pool.
b. No nests or eggs photos.
c. Only real live birds.
d. No only people shots.
f. No pictures in which you can barely see the bird.
What are the rules for posting discussion here?
a) Before you post, please SEARCH the discussion threads first. Chances are your question or brainwave is not unique. You may find your answer or similar thread without having to post anything, or you may be able to add to an existing discussion and therefore keep the dialogue grouped together
b) Keep it on topic (if it’s not Bird specific but nevertheless you feel it would be interesting to the group, prefix your subject line OT for “Off Topic”)
c) No personal attacks, we’re all friends here
d) If creating a discussion thread, please write a descriptive subject line (e.g. don’t say, “Check this out” but rather something meaningful.)
e) If creating a discussion thread, please be sure to check back – some people go to a lot of trouble to help others, so thank them. And do it for someone else.
f) No commercial or spam-like posts. The moderators will bounce these and may lock you out of the Pool.
How do I submit to the pool?
Firstly you need to join the "Birds Photos" Pool. On the assumption you have done that, now choose one of these two methods:
• Click on your photo that you wish to post to Birds Photos
• Click on the button bellow your photo which says "Add to group"
• Choose "Birds Photos" and click OK, confirming the photo was added to the group.
Alternate method of posting to our gallery:
• Click on "You" then "Organize " (navigation is near the flickr emblem at the top of the page)
• Click in the Your Groups Tab
• Click and drag the picture onto the Icon for the group you wish to post it in (Multiple pics can be added and dragged if that group allows, by pressing CTRL while clicking with your mouse).
How do I add a pic in the discussions?
This can be very handy, and it’s not hard.
• Select your photostream, and click the image you want to post - so you're seeing a single image
• Click on the the bent arrow, near the bottom right corner of your image
• Click on "HTML" section
• Make sure the drop-down box below the code says MEDIUM.
• The text there should be already selected – if not, drag the mouse over the entire HTML code in the box.
• Copy- Paste it here.
Alternate method:
• Click on the bent arrow bellow your photo (when visiting the page of a photo you would like to post here) • Choose the "embed" tab, select the correct size, and copy the code. When you'll paste it here, delete
data-flickr-embed="true" in the front and...
<script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
...in the end of the code and that should work. Don't delete anything else.
Why did you remove my picture from the pool?
Pictures are seldom removed, but it is more likely that you picture was not captioned to our required rules. You may or may not get an email explanation depending on how busy the workflow is for the moderators.
I can't see my pictures in the pool?
With so many pictures being added, it does not take long for your to be pushed back a few pages. Some users have noted delays between submitting a photo and seeing it published. This seems to be a Flickr quirk.
What is a tag?
The great beauty of digital assets is the way you (and others) can search for them. By adding tags– essentially keywords – you can make it easier to find photos later. In the "Birds Photos" pool there aren't any rules stating that you must tag your photos with some specific tag, so you can tag your pictures however you like. Go to your photo in Flickr, to the right of the photo you will see the option to “add a tag”
Still stuck with Flickr?
There’s a heap of Flickr help right here. These pages cover copyright, posting, deleting, tagging and more.
(If you copy this guide, you must firstly contact the administrator of this group and later if you got the permission to copy, provide the link to "Birds Photos" group)
