bangkok_police and 'red shirt' protesters clash directly under the ploenchit BTS/skytrain station
comment added April 14: the action in this photo takes place in central bangkok. the royal thai police had set up a riot control brigade in the shade under the Ploen Chit BTS Skytrain station. UDD 'red shirt' protesters moved up the road to meet them. there was no blatant violence in this location -- only a little pushing and shoving that almost appeared to be choreographed. at one point, the police withdrew and everyone was smiling and happy.

later that evening violence erupted in another part of bangkok.
over 20 people died -- including a Japanese TV cameraman.
