Some of his shots are just plain breathetaking, looked around his stream after I saw 6 pictures on HCSP gallery this morning!! No wonder my favs are filed with his shots now. Quite an inspiration for starters like me.

David Solomons 's sequence made sens but here I don't see what justifies it, a part from featuring a good photographer. I don't like the mix of differently coloured black and whites.
Nice pics taken seperatly.. especially enjoying the lit clothes!

have to agree i'm not really getting the selection/sequencing here. but hey ho...
do you get the artist involved in the sequencing or is it simply an admin led selection?

I like mecan's stream but I'm scratching my head at this selection too. Is there a subtle theme I'm missing?

Those first two shots are head and shoulders above the rest -- they're hard to follow and the rest of the "series" doesn't seem to have the same punch..
That said, I'm glad people are putting series' back into HCSP. Thanks guys!

suppose I'll just echo what the rest are saying.
mecan's good... like real good... maybe he's not an editor tho, which isn't a bad thing?
they come across lacking narrative to me or I just don't care enough...
It seems like its going in the opposite direction of solomons brazil set.
one off semi glory snaps VS the whole being greater than the individual
guessing this is what they were chosen from:

That's a good point, stoke -- I'm glad I found his stream and added him as a contact. That's what I like about hcsp, finding other people rather than just finding other photos.

well not an easy task the admins have gotten into,
tried to do my own selection and can't say that i got anywhere, other than a silly umbrella thing that was wise enough to dismiss instantly.
i would say that very different things are happening in his stream, so that a single short series must either leave some "types" out or be very eclectic.

hey, when are you changing the HCSP gallery? in a couple of months again?
you guys should be more disciplined with the dates of each gallery display, David's Brazil was on really for several months... and If I remember the idea was to change them more frequently..

what a timing... let's see if you realize your plans ;)
and I am sure I will be asking the same question in a month or two, being bored seeing the gallery 3 for too long

I'm guessing Mecan changed the privacy on the photos or changed the tag. Flickr is the problem for not giving us the tools to do this properly...

Mecan has some nice work there. I agree with some of the above posters and just wish that the galleries had been rotated a little more frequently, thats all. But who am I to give advice. At the end of the day we have formed and maintained one of the best groups on flickr!

or, Mecan has left the group, maybe? (not a question.)

he's quit hcsp that's for sure... unless there is some way to be a member of the group without having it display on your profile or something? and I'm guessing on quitting that little tick box was checked which removed all picks from the group?
Do you think it's now time that HCSP took advantage of alternative sites to present these galleries?
I mean, with the amount of free blog hosting, tumblr's and what not, surely you could create something that didn't depend on this flickr thing so much?

JD: If HCSP moves off of Flickr, I think you run into problems. Whatever set of admins choose to do it, they are kind of taking ownership of it.
Back in the day, we discussed this a bit, and felt that HCSP doesn't belong anywhere other than Flickr.
However, I think if there were to be a blog that featured a photograph and essays, it would certainly bring in a wider audience. Some people will just never stop by Flickr, no matter what.

I don't mean move off flickr completely, just simply as the presentation device for the galleries (tho I could also see the advantages of other features being pesented there too).
But would it really be that different to use some other slideshow software as opposed to the flickr one (heck the contents of the thing could even be driven from flickr through it's API)?
I mean, why keep using that crippled piece of crap? it doesn't even keep the order which you present the images in (well not when using it in the tag vs group orientated method).

I'm all for ditching flickr, I hate it. I'm only here for the groups.

FYI, followed the link from the front page description, the gallery no longer works, might be worth a note on the link there
